A real blank canvas of a building to be adaptable for creating different characters of spirit

Spirit purist Nick Bullard has been producing his own well-regarded blend ‘The Moffat’ for some time, the new distillery building is intended to offer a flexible layout for different configurations of production equipment.

We had looked at various sites and potential conversions with Nick to find a home for his whisky, the site on Old Carlisle road ticks all the boxes and afforded the opportunity for a new build. In an agricultural setting such as this, it’s possible for a building of relative scale to blend into the landscape, the building itself reflects some of the simple surrounding farm buildings and creates a single tall volume which allows flexibility in the positioning of the production equipment.

The building is split into two distinct areas, an unheated, highly ventilated production space and a heated, insulated visitor area. Work will be phased to allow production to begin with the fit out element of the visitor side to be completed at a later date

Rather than having a full-sized working floor there is a gantry which gives access to washbacks and stills. A small visitor area contains an impressive gallery level which allows special events to be held.

We have worked alongside Nick from initial concept design, helped to navigate through Planning and provided technical design to Building Warrant stage.

Some outstanding interiors and experience work was done by Supertonic which really brings the brand into the building, it will be a real treat when the vision becomes reality.

The building is currently in the construction phase with the team at Scengeneering acting as Main Contractor through the delivery phase.
